The Symposium committee is enthusiastically planning for 2025 CSEG Symposium, which will take place Tuesday, November 25th at the Hudson Lofts in Calgary. This year's theme will be Subsurface Imaging - Leveraging Human and Artificial Intelligence from Algorithm to Understanding.

We are proud to honour Dr. Samuel (Sam) Gray this year. Sam has published and presented extensively within the Canadian geophysical community and has worked at Veritas (later CGG, now Viridien) in Calgary for many years. Sam is the first individual to receive all three major SEG awards: Best Paper in Geophysics, Best Paper in The Leading Edge, and Best Presentation at the SEG Convention. He has also served multiple terms as an Associate Editor for Geophysics. In 2010, he received the SEG’s Reginald Fessenden Award for his contributions to both the theoretical and practical aspects of seismic imaging. In 2017, he was awarded the prestigious SEG Maurice Ewing Medal.

Most importantly, Sam developed foundational theory and practical tools for prestack depth migration, true-amplitude imaging, and steep-dip migration. Many of his innovations — such as steep-dip Kirchhoff migration and migration anti-aliasing — were industry firsts.
